Progress!

Work at the garden has been moving along nicely!

The past couple weeks have been great in making progress.

We now have all the plant beds filled with soil compost mixture prepared and kindly delivered from City Farmers Nursery, purchased a wheelbarrow, plenty of tools, gloves, started on the irrigation, and the rest along with fencing is looking to be finished this week.

Our goal is still to have the majority of work done by this Friday, September 10th so we will really be moving out there!

Some tasks we still have to complete are:

1. Mulching the pathways
2. Finishing the irrigation, extending lines out to the trees that we will plant
3. Putting up the fencing
4. Making gates
5. Purchasing and building the wheelchair accessible plant bed
6. Purchasing and installing the tool shed
7. Putting in signage
8. Putting in some seating, mulching that area
9. PLANTING!
--succulents
--natives
--perennials
--"potpourri path"
--passionfruit, vines on fencing
--cover crops

FIRST POST! Thursday September 2nd compost delivery volunteering!

Hello friends! I hope you are all having a bright summer full of fun!

I want to share and invite you to join us tomorrow, Thursday Sep
tember 2nd from 9am-3pm at the garden where will be getting loads of life delivered from City Farmers (website: http://www.cityfarmersnursery.com/) We will be distributing the soil compost mixture in the plant beds that were dug out last Thursday and may also start installing drip irrigation and touching up the pathways.

By Friday, September 10th of next week we hope to have digging complete, design features finalized, and final deliveries made before student move-ins on September 15th. After those move-ins, we will be at a stand-still for deliveries and major labor for a couple of weeks so we will be nurturing the land and putting in signage.

If you can contribute any of your skills, labor, or time (in person or virtual) in the coming weeks, please let me know by email at jbaltman@ucsd.edu or by phone at 858) 733. 0087. Any skills or time you can share is welcome whether they be artistic, logistical, organizational, out in the field etc! If this project sounds interesting to you and you would like to get involved in any way we can come up with something together!

I want to acknowledge and thank Bob Greenamyer of Victory Gardens of San Diego whose coordination of volunteers and continuous involvement with Earl's Garden has been essential to the progress of the garden this summer. I also thank the Victory Gardens volunteers who came out last Thursday, August 26th to help this garden become a reality. Also thanks to Keegan from the Sustainable Food Project at UCSD and a UCSD graduate, Mack
enzie Moore whose enthusiasm has been inspiring.

Thank you also to all of you for your continued support and interest in Earl's Garden and I hope to see your involvement grow!

Let's get digging and planting!
